There are 3 phases that marketers go through before they are able to create a sustainable and profitable internet business. Keep reading to find out what they are and where you fall.
Phase I You don’t know what to do
Phase II You know exactly what to do
Phase III You do what you know
Let’s look at these 3 phases a little more closely and see if you can honestly assess where you are and what you need to do.
For illustrative purposes we’re going to use the name Marketer X as we take a look at how the marketing metamorphosis works.
Marketer X has been looking for a way to make money on the internet to supplement his income and stumbles onto to the internet marketing scene. He looked at a couple of different programs and has decided to take a stab at affiliate marketing.
After all he’s heard so much about how easy it is to promote other peoples products for profit so what the heck, why not start there?
The only problem is Marketer X is in phase I and doesn’t quite know what to do. So he tries one or two methods of promotion and after a few less than spectacular attempts, starts to think that maybe affiliate marketing is a scam. However he doesn’t give up entirely because…
He’s just made a commission and now he has his own personal proof that affiliate marketing works, but…
He’s unable to replicate his success because he doesn’t know what to do to make it happen again, and because he wants it to happen faster he starts investing money into other programs that promise to take care of that for him, but unfortunately all he does is spend a lot of money in search of the magic pill and starts to morph into phase II…
Now that Marketer X has bought so much information about affiliate marketing he has graduated to the level of expert. It’s at this point that Marketer X starts to go on forums and tell everybody what he/she should be doing in order to make money online, but there’s only one problem…
Marketer X isn’t doing it himself. Sure he can tell you exactly how to set up your affiliate campaigns using adwords, article marketing or any of the other myriad of ways to get traffic, but Marketer X isn’t making a dime from all the information in his head and he’s still spending money that he’s not making to feed his desire to know everything.
However something starts to happen as our dear Marketer X continues to spend money and collect information, he actually starts to morph into phase III and do what he’s learned and begins to see some success from that million dollar storehouse in his brain.
Marketer X is no longer compelled to buy everything that’s promoted to him in his inbox and begins to realize that all the information he’s soaked up in his mind and cluttered his hard drive with is actually worth thousands upon thousands more than he originally paid for it because he finally understands the game and knows what to do to play successfully.
Our dear friend Marketer X has certainly paid his dues to make it, but here’s the irony of it all. If Marketer X would’ve just continued doing what he did to make that first commission check he would’ve made far more money than he spent.
What phase are you in?
